SEO Site Audit
First thing you want to do is to find all the areas on your website that you want to fix. So start by going to Google and typing in site:YourURL – Once you hit search you will see a list on Google of all website pages that Google has indexed and knows about.
Okay, now that you know that Google has seen your site, you want to know that there is only one version of your website. Is it a www or a non www or is it a http or an https (https is what you want as it is a secure site and Google prefers secure websites)
Next go to Ubersuggest and type in your domain name. You will get taken to an overview of a report and a traffic analyzer. Look and see if you have been getting more or less traffic over time. A new website will probably show little or no results. Once you start to implement new SEO technicals on your site, your rankings will start to go up. Now go do the same for your competitors.
Now it’s time to go and analyze your website to what is wrong and what you need to fix, so that you can get more traffic. On Ubersuggest go and click on Site Audit. This is a report that will show everything that is wrong and right (see the green bar on the left hand side) with your website. You want to fix all that is not green. Now click on critical errors. Also then look at the warnings and then the recommendations.
You will also learn things about your page title and see their lengths, and see your same or different titles which are ideally all unique. When you see there are pages with errors, click that link and go see how to fix with guidance.
If you have broken pages, you want to ask your developer to do 301 redirects for these pages. You may want to redirect these broken pages to your home page. Do it once to the new page and done.
Thin content also shows up in Ubersuggest. This is not good. You will want to beef up the text on your page. Note that not every page of yours is going to have a lot of content. Your about or contact page will have thin content and that is okay but fix the ones that make sense. Find you pages with duplicate titles and duplicate to page meta descriptions and fix them. Also make sure that you images have appropriate to the content, image Alt text to describe to Google what the image is about. Google can’t see images, but it can read your images.
Remember to create internal links all across your website, especially to popular pages.
Backlinks are a really important factor, because the more sites that link back to you, the better you are going to do. Some links are bad and you want to avoid these. Bad links would be from adult sites or casino sites that has nothing to do with your industry. The good links can come from genuine secure sites who are often in the same types of industry as you are in. Don’t pay for links as Google may penalize you. Now go to the backlinks report in Ubersuggest and then look at the anchor text. Check if the text actually matches up to your page. If it doesn’t and it looks spammy, then you want to sort this out. You want to remove these low quality spammy links because they will probably hurt your rankings as well.
To remove bad links you can reach out and email the sites that are linking to you and ask them to remove these bad links. The other option is to ask Google to disavow these bad links. Google has a tool called Disavow Links and basically you create a file and you list all these bad linking URL’s in your file, and then you tell Google to remove these bad links from being able to point to your site.

Schema markup is another factor to look at. An example of schema markup is when you see a block of (for example) a recipe with an image and some star rated review.. that is a schema markup.
It also known as structured data, and it is computer code that makes it easier for Google to organize your content. What’s great is that Google brings this to the top of search results. You can use Googles structured data markup helper tool to create that data to bring it up for your website. Most sites can have structured data. Just go though the Google schema WYSIWYG editor. At the end, Google gives you some code. You then ask your designer / developer to add that code to your website.
Next, check out sitemaps on Google Search Console / Google Webmaster Tools. You want to upload your sitemap to Google as it tells Google that you have a site index and you are basically asking Google to index as many pages as you can.
Also looks at your robots.text file to see if Google has blocked any of your pages. Type in YourURL/robots.txt to see if any of your pages have been blocked by Google. If important pages have been blocked, you need to fix that.
Does your site really flow well? Is your site structure good? Do your pages interlink in a very user friendly natural way? That internal linking really does boost your sites ranking.
Also check your site for penalties. Go to Google Search Console and click on manual actions and just check that you have no issues.
