Google Search Console
Set up Google Search Console for your website.
Once you are setup, the first thing that you want to do is go and check out your crawl error report. Click on overview, and then click on open report to see if you have any errors. You want to fix these errors because it will help you improve your ranking.
If you don’t fix something when Google tells you there is an error in your website, then Google will assume that you are probably giving your readers a poor experience, so we won’t rank your website as high. Once you have fixed your errors, click Validate Fix.
That tells Google that you have fixed the errors and that you Google should come back to my website, crawl again double check everything is good. Google usually takes a week or two.
If you want to speed up how quickly they crawl your website, put in your URL at the top when you are in the URL inspection section, and submit it.
If you do have 404 errors, you then want to 301 redirect those pages.
Next, you need to submit your sitemap. If you don’t have a sitemap, you can use a WordPress Yoast SEO plugin or Google XML site generator and find a free tool that will help you generate a site map. Then simply submit your site map into Google Search Console. It is a simple step by step process.
Look at your internal links by clicking on Links. Make sure that internally, you are linking to your top pages that are important to you. You also want to see that other people are also linking to the same top ranked pages of yours. You want to have the top pages that you see as the most be the same top pages that your users find the most important. You want to have and see this connect.
Once you see who the external websites are that link to you, you can make contact, build stronger relationships and get them to link more and more of your great content pages from their website back to yours which could drive a lot of referral traffic back to your website, which in turn could drive your sales. This is what you want to achieve, hence you need to see link building as a sales tool.
You also want to make sure that you are using Breadcrumbs and Schema Markup. These things all help to improve the amount of traffic on your website. Ask your designer or developer to do this.
Also use Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) which will help users in less developed countries with slow internet, to use your website ore easily. Your designer or developer will help you with this.
If you have many images on your pages, then it is a good idea to make use of the Lazy Load plugin. This plugin loads your images only as people scroll through your content, thereby allowing your content to download fast.
Also check on Google Search Console for any security issues that you may have. If your site has been hacked and Google has discovered security issues with your site, your ranking will tank and your site will probably disappear.
